BBL: Thunder wins the rain affected game, strengthen their spot on top of the table

Sydney Thunder wins their 5th game of the season as they strengthen their position on the top of the table as beat Melbourne Renegades by 7 runs in a rain-affected match. Thunder won the toss and elected to bowl. Rain affected the match immediately as the match was cut short to 17 overs. Renegades batting first, posted a high total of 167 for the Thunders in 17 overs.

Shaun Marsh was the top performer for the Renegades as he powered their batting with his 87 off 48 deliveries with 5 boundaries and 5 maximums. He was well supported by Nabi in the middle as he helped Renegades with his quick 33 off 24 deliveries which had 3 maximums and 1 boundary. For Thunders, Nathan McAndrew was the top performer as he picked 3 wickets for 41 runs in his 4 over quota. Sams, Tremain, and Sangha each picked 1 wicket.

Thunders got the start they wanted in a big chase as their openers Usman Khawaja and Alex Hales went after the Renegades bowlers immediately. Hales played a quick knock of 45 off 19 deliveries. He was dismissed by Perry with help of an outstanding catch courtesy Harvey. Khawaja stayed at the crease till the end and made sure that the score stays ahead of the par score. In the end, the rain came in and played its part which made the officials call-off the game. Thunders were ahead of the par score at the end of the play by 7 runs. Thunders won the match by 7 runs and strengthened their position at the top. Alex Hales was declared as the Player of the Match.
