Bangladeshi cricketer Mushfiqur taunts Sri Lanka team with ‘broken helmet act’ as the ‘timed-out’ controversy carries on

Mushfiqur’s helmet celebration adds new twist to Bangladesh-Sri Lanka rivalry. The recent fun incident in the Bangladesh-Sri Lanka cricket rivalry has occurred after the two teams have engaged in cheeky jabs over the controversial dismissal of Angelo Mathews by being timed-out during the 2023 World Cup.

The incident follows the decisive ODI series victory against Sri Lanka in Chattogram, after which Mushfiqur Rahim celebrated the win with a helmet in a mockery incident. Bangladesh’s victory during the clinching of the victory was as straight as they bowled Sri Lanka out for 235 before Mushfiqur Rahim hit the winning runs in the 41 st over, with Tanzid Hasan top-scoring with 84.

After the trophy has been awarded, the players crowded against a ‘series won’ board for the team photo behind them. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto signaled in-sync with Mushfiqur for the celebration. With hilarious responses from his teammates, Mushfiqur walked in front of the board with his helmet, showing it to his teammates clapping, and laughing. The celebration was in a mock form in reference to the timing-out of Angelo Mathews during the 2023 World Cup, making it the first such incident against an international player in a league-stage game against Bangladesh after having helmet issues.

The incidence has sparked controversy between the two teams as the first T20 was played after which Shoriful Islam indicated an imaginary watch on his wrist when he took Avishka Fernando. The Srilankan side took the T20 trophy and all the players waved their fingers while celebrating the team photo. Leading to a five-year flame against the two sides is the rival with acrimoniously battling for years. Later this week, the two will play two Test matches series that already have fan tension and sparking with humor ahead.
