Bangladesh’s cricket selectors have announced their 16-member squad for the upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, set to take place in April and May. However, the team will be without some of its senior players, including Salma Khatun and Rumana Ahmed, who have been rested for the series as part of the selectors’ workload management plan.

The absence of Khatun and Ahmed, who have played a combined total of 274 international matches for Bangladesh, will be felt by the team. Additionally, pacer Marufa Akter will also miss the tour due to upcoming exams.

To fill the gaps, Bangladesh has called up Sanjida Akther Maghla, Fariha Islam Trishna, Rabeya and Sultana Khatun. The latter could make her international debut for the national side.

The squad will be led by Nigar Sultana Joty and will depart for Sri Lanka on April 25. The tour will begin with a three-match ODI series, set to be played between April 29 and May 4 at the P Sara Oval in Colombo. These matches will be part of the ICC Women’s Championship. The three T20Is will be played on May 9, 11, and 12 at the SSC Ground in Colombo.

Bangladesh will be hoping to perform well in the absence of their senior players, against a tough Sri Lankan team, and gain valuable points in the ICC Women’s Championship standings.
