Bangladesh batsman Afif Hossain has been left out of the squad for the decisive third ODI against Ireland on March 23 at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Along with Afif, the team management has released pacer Shoriful Islam to play for their respective teams in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League and work on their 50-over game.

Afif’s exclusion from the ODI squad for the Ireland game followed his exclusion from the previous T20I game against England, which marked the end of his long rope in the shortest format.

A member of the national selection committee confirmed Afif Hossain has left the team after being excluded from the ODI squad.

“Yes, he’s headed back to Dhaka. The squad has been reduced to 14 members from 15,” said a member of the selection panel. “There is no specific reason for his exclusion apart from the fact his chances of being in the eleven are slim.”

‘We wanted to have a 14-member squad initially and since we don’t have injury concerns he has been sent back to play there in the DPL.’
