The wait for Pakistan is finally over. After 14 years and 6 encounters in the T20 world cups, they have finally defeated India in a match to break their losing streak of 5 matches in the past 5 encounters. Their captain Babar Azam leading from the front played an immaculate inning of 68 to make sure that there were no slipups in the end.
Things turned out to be in Pakistan’s favor from the very beginning. They won the toss which was a crucial aspect of the match considering the dew factor towards the end of the match. Also, in the three previous matches, it was the side-batting second who won the game. Apart from that, Pakistan had lost their past 3 encounters while batting first. So it was clear that chasing was India’s forte and Pakistan made sure that they put them (India) out of their comfort zone. And it paid off, as India lost 3 wickets in the first 6 overs, and could only accumulate 36 runs in them. Later Virat Kohli batted with the middle order batsmen to steady the innings and also scored a 50 to boost his team’s total. India managed to score 151 in their 20 overs. Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali were the picks of the bowlers for Pakistan as they picked 3 and 2 wickets each to tumble the top order of India.
When Pakistan came to bat it felt as if they were playing on a different pitch. The ball seemed to be coming onto the bat very easily and taking advantage of it the Pakistani Openers got on to a great start and just didn’t look back. Rizwan scored 79 while Babar put up 68 runs as Pakistan beat India by a margin of 10 wickets.

This victory has given Pakistan some great confidence to build upon in this tournament. On the other side, India will have to make some serious issues to look after since it was a complete collapse of their top order. The number 1,2 and 4 batsmen accumulated just 14 runs which is an alarming sign. Although they do have around 6 days to regroup and come up with a better strategy as they play New Zealand on 31st October.
