Australian captain Aaron Finch defends David Warner as he wants him as his opening partner in this year’s T20 World Cup

Australian skipper confirms that David Warner will be opening with him despite his poor form in the Indian Premier League this year.

Australia’s star player David Warner was being booed by a lot of cricket fans around the world as his form in the Indian Premier League completely went down to the tunnel. His exclusion from the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise was a big worry for many fans. He hasn’t played any international cricket match over a year, but captain Finch said that his place in the opening slot is very much with him as his considered one of the most dangerous batsmen. Finch backed David Warner to open the innings at the T20 World Cup in Dubai and Oman, despite his poor batting form.

The Aussie skipper told, as per ESPNCricinfo, “I’ve got no doubt that his preparation, while he would love to be playing for Hyderabad no doubt, I know that he’s still training away. He’ll be good to go.” David Warner hasn’t played a single T20 match since September 2020 as he missed out a lot of games due to injury or rest is given.

He also didn’t feature in the tour of Bangladesh mid-year because he was given a rest for the second half of the IPL and World Cup. In the wake of the resumption of the second of the IPL, he managed to score 0 and 2 runs in his first two games. The team franchise decided to drop him and replace him with Jason Roy.

He was sacked from the team due to his poor performance which lead his confidence down as he is looking forward to scoring and makes an impact in this year’s World T20 Cup in Dubai and Oman. His inclusion will definitely boost the entire team to perform well this year.
