Virat Kohli has been known as modern day great in World Cricket. He has been breaking and making new records, setting high bars to clear in all formats of the game. In the second ODI, the Indian captain became fastest and only third Indian to cross the 22000 runs across all formats of the game.
India has already lost the ongoing series against Australia. On Sunday, India lost a high scoring match by 51 runs. Kohli tried his best to chase the target but fell before crossing the three figure mark.
The third ODI will be played on Wednesday and the captain will be eyeing to cross another record. If Kohli score more than 23 runs in the final ODI against Australia, he will become the fastest player to score 12000 runs in One Day Internationals. The current record holder for this record is the legend of Indian cricket Sachin Tendulkar. Master Blaster achieved this feat in 309 matches and if Kohli achieves this feat in the final ODI against Australia he will be the fastest to cross that mark as he will be doing it in his 251st ODI.
If Kohli crosses the 12000 run mark, he will join the legendary list of players who have earlier done this which had likes of Ricky Ponting, Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara and Sanath Jayasuriya.
He can also equal another record which is held by Sachin to score most centuries against Australia. The current record is of 9 which is held by the Master Blaster.
The third ODI will be played in Canberra.
