AUS vs IND: Sachin Tendulkar backs the Indian team to do well without captain Virat Kohli “The best part about Indian cricket right now is there is bench strength,”

Ahead of the Border-Gavaskar series, Indian cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar told AFP in an interview that  although Indian captain Virat Kohli leaving after the 1st Test would create a huge void, the Indian team still has enough quality on the bench. Tendulkar also mentioned that Kohli’s absence would give other youngsters a chance.

“When you lose an experienced player like this (Kohli) there is without any doubt a void. But let’s understand, this is not about individuals. It is about our team and the best part about Indian cricket right now is there is bench strength,”

Virat Kohli will be taking a paternal leave after the 1st Test in Adelaide. As a result, Ajinkya Rahane will be leading the team in Kohli’s absence.

Tendulkar also said, “So Virat has to come back for personal reasons and some youngster is going to get a chance to play in his spot and that’s an opportunity for someone else.”

India will be playing Australia at Adelaide on December 17 to commence the 4 match Border-Gavaskar Test series.
