Asia Cup 2022: Ex-Pakistani Captain claims Shaheen’s absence as a “major setback” for team Pakistan

Shaheen Afridi’s most recent injury, according to former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, is a major setback for the national side.

In a statement released by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday, August 20, it was said that Afridi must take four to six weeks out to heal from a knee injury.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on August 22 that the 22-year-old right-arm bowler Mohammad Hasnain has been selected to take Shaheen Shah Afridi’s spot as the frontline pacer for the Pakistan Team for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022.

Mohammad Hasnain, who was recently suspended for using an illegal bowling motion, has so far appeared in 8 ODIs and 18 T20 International matches for team Pakistan. As far 12 ODI and 17 T20I wickets have been taken by him.

“Mohammad Hasnain will replace Shaheen Shah Afridi in the Pakistan squad for the ACC T20 Asia Cup,” the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in an official media release on Monday.

“Hasnain will join the side from the United Kingdom, where he is representing Oval Invincibles in The Hundred competition,” PCB further wrote.

“It’s a massive setback for Pakistan that Shaheen Afridi is out of the Asia Cup. If you look at the last match against India, he created pressure right from the very first over in the previous edition of the T20 World Cup,” Inzamam said on his YouTube channel.

“It’s a tough decision for Pakistan as Shaheen has been ruled out of the tournament, but injuries are part of the game,” he added.
