In the middle of the Duleep Trophy match on Friday, Central Zone’s Venkatesh Iyer was hurt by a reckless throw by West Zone medium pacer Chintan Gaja on follow-through. The West Zone seamer struck the all-rounder in the head, forcing him to step back.

Iyer, who has just recently joined India’s team, got things started with a six off Gaja. He returned the next ball to Gaja, who tossed it back to Iyer, who was down on the ground writhing in anguish.
The 27-year-old made the decision to leave the field while the ambulance and stretcher were already in the centre of the field.
Iyer resumed batting but was struck out after reaching 14. Iyer, though, was being replaced by Ashok Menaria in the field.
