Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers has expressed his desire to see ex-Indian skipper Virat Kohli participating in the SA20 League post his international career. While Indian players are typically restricted from joining T20 leagues worldwide, de Villiers hopes that Kohli, after retirement, will make an appearance in the BetWay SAT20 League.
Both de Villiers and Kohli share a camaraderie developed during their stint as teammates at Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). With mutual respect and admiration, de Villiers, in an interview with India Today, stated, “Get Virat over here. Definitely, Virat. Get Virat over there. Hopefully, as soon as he’s done with his career, come and play one season in the BetWay SAT20. That would be amazing.”
Kohli, renowned for his stellar IPL performances, has accumulated 7263 runs in 237 matches, boasting an average of 77.25, featuring 7 centuries and 50 half-centuries. De Villiers’ suggestion adds an exciting prospect to the future of SA20 League, envisioning Kohli’s participation.
Moreover, de Villiers didn’t rule out the possibility of his own return to RCB, expressing his affection for the team and its fans. While he didn’t confirm a comeback in IPL 2024, he stated, “I hope so. I mean, my heart is with the RCB. I’ve played there for many, many years. I’ve got a very good connection with the fans of Bangalore, and I’ll always be appreciative for all the support and love over the years. I can’t guarantee anything, but I would absolutely love to see myself in the RCB colors again in the future.”
