Bronze medalist of Tokyo Olympics Lovlina Borgohain directly secures a place in the Indian team for the AIBA World Championship

This announcement confirms that the Olympic medalist will not be seen fighting in any of the national tournaments. She will directly feature in the Women’s world championship which is to be held in December in Istanbul.

Lovlina Borgohain made the whole country proud when she won the Bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics. Now, keeping that in mind, the Indian Boxing Federation has decided to directly draft her into the Indian team for the AIBA women’s world championship. She will be representing the 69 kg category, while the rest of the members of the team will be decided to form the National Championships that will begin in Hisar on October 21.

The federation has decided that the remaining members of the squads will be boxers who win gold in the upcoming nationals. The Indian Boxing Federation Stated, “The Gold-medalist in each weight category will represent India in the AIBA women’s championship category except 69kg. Lovlina Borgohain will see a direct qualification for the world championships.”

While the gold and silver winners from the national championships will see a direct qualification. The bronze winners will have to fight it out in the trails. There they will face medalists from the previous editions of the tournaments and the winners will secure a place in the camp.

On the other hand, the men’s camp is yet to take off for Belgrade where the tournament starts on the 24th of October. The delay is caused due to revamping of coaching staff after none of the male boxers was able to make it to the medal’s round in the previous Olympics.
