Jamie George, of the Saracens and England, will captain the British and Irish Lions against the Sharks on Saturday, live on Sky Sports.
The tour PCR screening program returned a negative set of results on Friday, allowing the Sharks match to go ahead as scheduled. Two positive Covid-19 tests in camp on Wednesday (one player and one staff) left the squad in disarray as they prepared for the match.
After initially producing a positive test on Wednesday, the player has since produced negative results twice, allowing all but one of the squad members who had been in isolation at the team hotel in Johannesburg to qualify once again for selection.
Due to a Covid outbreak, the Bulls were unable to participate in the scheduled tour match against the Durban Sharks. Warren Gatland’s side features 13 changes to the one that faced the Sharks on Wednesday, with only Elliot Daly at the centre and Duhan van der Merwe being retained on the wings.
As close contacts of the other, unnamed staff member who tested positive on Wednesday, one player and three members of the staff remain isolated at the team hotel. Except for Stuart Hogg, who had to undergo a late fitness check due to a dead leg, all of the players who were withdrawn from the original 23 are present.
