BAI writes to SAI for conducting national camp prior to domestic season

The camp will be held in the three cities Hyderabad, Guwahati and Bangalore under stringent COVID-19 protocols.

The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has requested the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to approve a National Shuttle Camp in the first week of next month with its attempt to resume the domestic season under strict COVID-19 protocols. The camp will be held in the three cities, Hyderabad, Guwahati, and Bangalore, under stringent COVID-19 protocols, according to BAI’s proposal for both junior and senior shuttlers.

About 70-75 players including Star shuttlers like Saina Nehwal, HS Prannoy, N sikki Reddy, Kidambi Srikanth and Ashwini Ponnappa will actively participate. “The domestic badminton scene, as well as the National Camp, needs to resume if all goes well and the pandemic doesn’t have any more damaging impact on lives,” BAI general secretary Ajay Kumar Singhania told PTI.

“We have written to SAI proposing the resumption of the camp from the first week of August. We are awaiting to hear from them.” he further said. BAI said last month that it requested its state units to vaccinate their players and officials under rigorous COVID-19 guidelines for the resumption of the domestic season.

According to BAI guidelines, players over 18 years of age must be fully immunised and must carry their certificates with valid bar codes with trainers, technical officials, team organisers, and staff. For shuttles under the age of 18 years, a negative RTPCR report with a barcode will be required before 96 hours from the departure of their respective stations.

The season 2021-22 will kick off with senior tournaments and events in different age categories.
