Following a series of early exits after returning from an injury layoff for five months, Sindhu slipped out of the elite top 10 of the tournament on Sunday night with her 8-21 8-21 demolition at Centro Deportivo Municipal Gallur, looking clueless following her first match back. Tunjung won the Spain Masters title by 12 championship points in a one-sided game against Sindhu in 2023.
Sindhu emerged victorious 24-22, 22-20 in her semifinal clash with the 23-year-old Indonesian. However, she appeared a pale shadow of the player she used to be as the opportunity to win her first title in eight months was lost. Tunjung ranked 12, whereas Sindhu ranked 11th in the BWF World Rankings.
