Asian Youth Boxing Championship: India writes history by winning 6 gold medals

India wins a historic six gold medals alongside nine silver medals and five bronze medals to end their campaign on a positive note.

The Indian Contingent on Friday ended their successful campaign on a very high note at the 2021 Asian Youth Boxing Championship by winning a total of 39 medals including 14 gold medals in Dubai. Preet Dahiya and three other women athletes had a phenomenal final day as they ended up winning the gold for the nation. India has already won a total of 19 medals which includes six gold medals, nine silver medals and five bronze medals in this year’s event making the entire nation and their fans proud.

Preeti Dahiya bagged another gold medal in the 60kg final against the 2021 Youth World Championships with the silver given to Zuldyz Shayakhmetova of Kazakhstan. Sneha Kumari in the 66kg and Khushi in the 75kg match had also claim easy victories in their respective finals to bag gold medals. Sneha registered Referee Stopping the Contest win over the local favourite Rahmah Almurshidi.

The Boxing Federation of India was very proud of their performance as they said” Here are our 6 young guns who ensured that our National Anthem was played in Dubai at the Asian Youth Championships 2021″.

Bronze-medallist Bishwamitra Chongtham (51kg) also won his gold medal for the first time in 7 years in the youth men’s category at the Asian Junior Boxing Championship as well as Vishal (80kg) added one more yellow metal to the tally, Neha (54kg) handed the country gold in the youth womenโ€™s event played late on Monday night.

The President of Boxing Federation of India, Ajay Singh in the press conference was very proud of their performance as he said “This has been a brilliant outing for our junior and youth boxers. Winning 39 medals at the Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships is a commendable achievement and it only shows the depth of boxing talent we have in India”.
