Asian Games 2023: Chinese Yanni Wu apologizes to Indian Jyothi Yarraji amid false start controversy

India’s Jyothi Yarraji received a handshake apology from Chinese athlete Yanni Wu after the huge false start controversy in the 100m hurdles final. Yanni Wu had a false start in lane 4, but the officials disqualified the Indian athlete instead, which was shocking for everyone.

After a long discussion and protest over the decision, the officials went through replays, coming to a conclusion by reinstating Jyothi and disqualifying Wu. Jyothi, who was behind Wu, got promoted to second place, claiming a silver for India.

Wu accepted her mistake and apologized to all the fellow competitors, especially Indian silver medalist Jyothi Yarraji.

“To the Indian player Jyothi Yarraji, who was next to me, there was a misjudgement, and I’m really sorry.” The athlete posted on the Chinese social media website Weibo.
