
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) confirmed on Monday that the Asian Champions League from the quarterfinals stage would be played in a single-leg format because of the situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The quarterfinals and semifinals have been programmed to be played at consolidated locations for the east and west regions at the meantime, the bidding process will be opened by the AFC to countries in the region of the west for organising the final scheduled for November 23.
Knockout games on the second-tier AFC will also follow the format of a single-leg tie.
“The AFC Executive Committee agreed that it was essential to minimise the travel frequency of the participating clubs while underlying its continued commitment towards ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all players…,” declared AFC through a statement.
The governing body also stated that the Asian Champions League and AFC Cup games of the next season will be held following the single-leg format applied on both competitions in the knockout rounds and at concentrated locations.
Adding more to it, AFC declared that the Under-17 Women’s Asian Cup in Indonesia and Under-20 Women’s Asian Cup in Uzbekistan of next year has been postponed because of the condition caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.
