AFC Women’s Asia Cup to be held in India from Jan 20 to Feb 6 in 2022


On Thursday, the Asian Football Confederation announced, the 2022 Asian Women’s Cup is going to held in India from January 20 to February 6.

Expanded from eight in the previous edition, the tournament is going to feature 12 teams which comprises three group of four with a minimum of 25 matches being played over 18 days also for newly introduced quarterfinals those eight teams is going to qualify.

Meanwhile, the Qualifiers for the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup is all set to take place from September 13 to 25 in a centralised venue as the continent’s hopefuls compete for the last eight spots to join the three most noteworthy positioned sides from the last release- Japan, Australia and China, who close by have India receive programmed capability.

“In recent years, India has seen incredible growth and we are so sure that the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India will present another historic step in the extraordinary journey of Indian Football, one that is going to strengthen the passion and will leave a long lasting impact for future generations of women footballers” said by secretary of AFC general Dato Windsor John.

The competition is one of the two marquee events being held in the country next year as the facilitating privileges of the 2022 FIFA U-17. After the 2020 event got cancelled due to Covid-19 pandemic the Women’s World Cup was handed to India.

All India Football Federation President, Praful Patel said, “2022 will not only kick star the AFC Women’s Asian Cup but is going to be a significant year for women’s football in India with two big occasions. We have seen the gradual growth and rise in popularity of women’s football and the coming year is going to be an important step in this journey.”

He added, “As the tournament has expanded to 12 teams for this edition, fans will get chance to see the best women footballers from around the continent in India and we are confident of delivering a world class competition for teams and fans as well.”

In the year 2016 India has also hosted the AFC U-16 championships and FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2017.
