Australia have been set a target of 205 runs in the first Ashes Test after England were bowled out for 164 in their second innings on Day 2 at Perth. Match officials immediately called early Tea, bringing a dramatic session to a halt after a burst of English wickets.
England’s innings, which had shown late resistance through Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse, ended when Atkinson fell for 37, caught at fine-leg off Scott Boland. The dismissal wrapped up a fiery short-ball phase from Australia, who turned the screws once the partnership was broken.
Boland was the standout once again, finishing with 4 wickets, while Doggett chipped in with three from the other end. England lost four wickets for 76 runs in the last 10 overs, collapsing after briefly regaining momentum.
With England dismissed for 164 and holding a lead of 204, Australia now need 205 runs to win the opening Test.
Play will resume after Tea with Australia beginning their chase in what promises to be a decisive final session of Day 2.
