Leicester City have suffered one of the most dramatic declines in modern football after their relegation to England’s third tier was confirmed. A draw against Hull City sealed their fate, sending the former Premier League champions down to League One for the 2026–27 season.
The fall is hard to process. Just ten years ago, Leicester City stunned the world by winning the Premier League title in the 2015–16 season. That historic triumph remains one of the greatest underdog stories in sport. Since then, the club added more silverware, lifting the FA Cup, the League Cup and the Community Shield.
Leicester also made their mark in Europe. They featured in the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Europa Conference League, competing against some of the biggest names on the continent.
Now, the picture looks very different. The club that once faced Atletico Madrid in a Champions League quarter-final will next season travel to smaller grounds in League One.
Leicester’s journey has taken them through every level of English football in recent years. From the heights of the Premier League to the challenges of the Championship, and now to League One, their story stands out for its sharp rise and sudden fall.
