New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry went unsold in the ongoing IPL 2026 mini-auction in Abu Dhabi, failing to attract any bids at his base price of Rs 2 crore. Henry was the first player in the capped fast bowlers set, but franchises chose to pass without raising the paddle.

Limited IPL exposure so far

Despite being a regular feature in New Zealand’s white-ball squads, Henry has had limited opportunities in the IPL. He has played six IPL matches across multiple seasons, picking up two wickets at a bowling average of 90.50 and an economy rate of 10.65, with best figures of 1 for 28.

Franchise history

Henry has been part of IPL squads with Kings XI Punjab in 2017, Chennai Super Kings as a replacement player in 2024, and Lucknow Super Giants, also as a replacement, in 2024. However, he struggled to secure a regular spot in the playing XI during these stints.

No bids at IPL 2026 mini-auction

At the IPL 2026 mini-auction, Henry was listed at a premium base price of Rs 2 crore, but no franchise placed a bid for him in the initial rounds. His unsold status reflects the continued challenge he has faced in translating his international white-ball success into sustained IPL opportunities.

Replacement option still open

Although unsold, Henry remains eligible to be signed later in the season as an injury or availability replacement. This leaves the door open for a potential return should franchises require an experienced fast bowler during the course of IPL 2026.
