Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd will roll out 5G technology in the second half of 2021 in India. Company’s Chairman Mukesh Ambani said the fifth-generation wireless service will be built within the country.
Ambani while addressing the fourth edition of India Mobile Congress, said the country needs policy development for the early implementation of 5G services.
Ambani said, “I assure you that Jio will pioneer the 5G revolution in India in the second half of 2021. It will be powered by the indigenous-developed network, hardware, and technology components.”
Reliance Jio competitors Bharti Airtel Ltd and Vodafone Idea Ltd believes that the technology will take two years to arrive in India due to lack of an ecosystem. Moreover, the reserve price for the spectrum is expensive.
In October, Jio Platform Ltd informed about its partnership with the US-based Qualcomm Inc to develop 5G solutions and accelerate efforts to bring the high-speed network to the world’s second-largest mobile market by subscribers.
In July, at RIL’s 43rd annual general meeting, Ambani said, “Jio has developed a complete 5G solution from scratch. This will enable us to launch a world-class 5G service in India using a 100 percent homegrown technology and solution.”
Jio Platform has raised Rs 1.52 trillion from investors like Google and Facebook within four months. Additionally, Qualcomm ventures, the investment arm of Qualcomm Inc, has invested Rs 730 crore in Jio Platform for a 0.15 percent stake.
