On Sunday, April 25, Union Health Ministry released the data of new COVID-19 cases in India, after that India saw another day with highest surge in cases.
Report released by the Union Health Ministry states that in the last 24 hours, India reported 3,469,691 new COVID-19 cases and 2,17,113 patients got discharge, while 2,767 people died of this deadly virus, and reached the milestone of highest single day deaths. Total active cases in India is now around 26.82 lakhs. The total death toll in India reached to 1,92,311.

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) also released a data that shows 27,79,18,810 samples were tested up to April 24, including 17,19,588 samples tested yesterday.
India becomes the fastest country to administer 14 Crore Doses of COVID-19 Vaccine in just 99 days. Also, the country has administered more than 24 lakh vaccine doses administered till 8 pm today.
The cumulative number of COVID19 vaccine doses administered in the country stands at 14,08,02,794.
These include 92,89,621 Healthcare Workers (HCWs) who have taken the 1st dose and 59,94,401 HCWs who have taken the 2nd dose, 1,19,42,233 Frontline Workers (FLWs) (1st dose), 62,77,797 FLWs (2nd dose), 4,76,41,992 for over 45 years old to 60 years old (1st Dose), 23,22,480 for over 45 years old to 60 years old (2nd dose), 4,96,32,245 for above 60 years (1st Dose) and 77,02,025 for above 60 years (2nd Dose).
With regards to the Phase III Vaccination strategy from 1st May 2021, the states are specifically advised to:
- Register additional private COVID Vaccination Centres (CVCs) in mission mode by engaging with private hospitals, hospitals of industrial establishments, Industry Associations, etc., coordinating with designated appropriate authority, mechanism for applications/requests and their processing and monitoring of pendency of registration.
- Monitor number of hospitals that have procured vaccines and have declared stocks and prices on COWIN.
- Schedule Vaccination for eligible population for providing adequate visibility of vaccination slots on COWIN.
- Prioritize Decision regarding direct procurement of vaccines by State/UT Government.
- Publicize about facility of ‘only online registration’ for age groups 18-45 year.
- Train CVC staff about Vaccination, AEFI reporting and management, Use of COWIN – Training schedule and Reconciliation of vaccine stocks have been already provided to private CVCs.
- Coordinate with law-and-order authorities for effective crowd management at CVCs.
Regarding infrastructure augmentation for effective clinical treatment of the hospitalised COVID patients, states were advised to review their existing hospital and other COVID treatment infrastructure in light of the daily new case, daily fatality and those that would require hospitalisation.
