Delhi’s popular Lajpat Nagar Market shut for breaking COVID-19 protocols

The cotton market in Old Delhi’s Sadar Bazar will remain shut on 5th and 6th July for not following COVID-19 norms.

Lajpat Nagar’s Central Market has been shut down by authorities for not following COVID-19 norms. It will not open until further orders.

An order issued on Sunday has asked Lajpat Nagar Market Traders Association to show cause the reason action should not be taken against them for breaking COVID-19 protocols.

Additionally, the traders association has been directed to make sure that all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in the central market are imposed within one day. Shopkeepers shall strictly follow COVID-appropriate behavior.

According to the order, under the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s (SDM) supervision of the area, an inspection was conducted by the enforcement team in the famous Lajpat Nagar Market. A massive COVID-19 protocols violation was found which is why the market was directed to shut down.

On the basis of the response filed by the traders association along with a subsequent review of the current situation, the administration will be making a decision on the reopening of the central market.

As per the Ministry of Health and Family Affairs (MoHFW), the country has added 39,796 infections while 29,700,430 have recovered in a day. Also, 723 lost their lives to COVID-19 with the total count of fatalities being 402,728. The total cases registered in India are now up to 30,585,229.

Meanwhile, the capital city has registered fresh 94 COVID-19 infections with a positivity rate of 0.13 percent. It experienced a number of active cases below 1000 for the first time in over a year.
