Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal takes first shot of Covid-19 vaccine

After receiving the vaccine, Sonowal urged all eligible persons of the state to get vaccinated and continue following safety precautions.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday, April 8, took the first shot of COVID-19 vaccine at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati. After receiving the vaccine, Sonowal urged all eligible persons of the state to get vaccinated and continue following safety precautions.

He said vaccines are safe and it will help in defeating the pandemic. The Chief Minister took to his official Twitter handle urging eligible people to get vaccinated and to take all precautions to curb COVID-19 pandemic.

“Took my first shot of #COVID19 vaccine at GMCH. Vaccines are safe and will help us defeat this pandemic. I urge all eligible persons of the state to get vaccinated and continue following safety precautions,” Sonowal tweeted.

Earlier on the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took second shot of COVID vaccine at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

Assam’s COVID-19 tally has mounted to 2,18,740 as the state reported this year’s highest single-day spike of 70 fresh cases. The daily fresh cases, which had dipped to below 30 in the last three months, is showing an upward trend since the last week of March.

The state tested 17,605 samples on Monday.
