Masks likely to be made mandatory in Delhi amid rising COVID-19 cases: Report

On April 20, when the DDMA has a meeting to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the city, a definitive decision will be made.

As the number of Coronavirus cases in Delhi-NCR continues to grow, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) is considering revising its decision to lift the fee for not wearing face masks in public areas, as per the report by Hindustan Times.

On April 20, when the DDMA has a meeting to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the city, a definitive decision will be made. The meeting is scheduled to be attended by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia, Chief Secretary Vijay Dev, and senior officers from the departments involved.

Traders have also encouraged the DDMA to make masks necessary once more, removing the need for tight limitations. “The removal of the mask must be completed within a certain amount of time people had accepted masks as part of their lives, and most were wearing them,” said Praveen Khandelwal, general secretary of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT).

The Delhi health department issued an order earlier this month declaring that no fines will be enforced on anyone who does not use face masks throughout the city. Despite an increase in cases, many people have ceased taking it since then. There was a Rs 500 punishment for those who did not wear masks in public locations in the national capital.

In addition, in light of a dramatic drop in the number of new cases of infection in the country, the Centre encouraged states and union territories to consider ending the COVID-19 containment measures.
