Maharashtra’a Bhandara district becomes free from Coronavirus

Bhandara district in Maharastra on Friday became the first covid-free district in the state. Tracing, testing, and treatment along with proper planning and collective efforts have helped make Bhandara free of coronavirus after 15 months.

Bhandara district in Maharastra on Friday became the first covid-free district in the state. Bhandara which was one of the worst affected areas in Maharastra reported no new cases in the last three days. 

As reported by NDTV, according to a press release by the district information officer, tracing, testing, and treatment along with proper planning and collective efforts have helped make Bhandara free of coronavirus after 15 months.

The only COVID-19 patient under treatment was discharged from the hospital on Friday, while 578 persons were tested for coronavirus in the last 24 hours and all of them returned a negative result, the release said.

District collector Sandeep Kadam told PTI that the collective efforts of the administration and cooperation of people played an important role in making Bhandara, located in eastern Maharashtra, free of the disease.

“Although the number of coronavirus patients in the district is zero today, people need to be careful in the coming days and follow COVID-19 protocols,” he added.

Dr Riyaz Farooqui, district civil surgeon told PTI, “If people continue to cooperate, we can remain Covid-free for a longer period. The last three days have seen zero new cases In July, there were zero cases on more than 10 days. Mask and physical distancing are the keys to continue this status.”

According to official figures, the Bhandara district had reported 59,809 coronavirus cases and 1,133 deaths.
