India records 3.15 lakh fresh COVID-19 cases, 2104 deaths in last 24 hours

The total vaccination across the country have crossed more than 13.22 crore mark today with more than 21.21 lakh vaccine doses administered till 8 pm.

On Thursday, April 22, Union Health Ministry released the data of new COVID-19 cases in India, after that India saw another day with highest surge in cases.

Report released by the Union Health Ministry states that in the last 24 hours, India reported 3,14,835 new COVID-19 cases and 1,78,841 patients got discharge, while 2,104 people died of this deadly virus, and reached the milestone of highest single day deaths. Total active cases in India is now around 22.91 lakhs. The total death toll in India reached to 1,84,657.


Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) also released a data that shows 27,27,05,103 samples were tested up to April 21, including 16,51,711 samples tested yesterday.

The cumulative number of COVID19 vaccine doses administered in the country stands at 13,22,40,352.

These include 92,19,080 Healthcare Workers (HCWs) who have taken the 1st dose and 58,51,361 HCWs who have taken the 2nd dose, 1,16,28,882 Frontline Workers (FLWs (1st dose), 59,32,541 FLWs (2nd dose), 4,43,89,584 for over 45 years old to 60 years old (1st Dose), 16,28,837 for over 45 years old to 60 years old (2nd dose), 4,78,44,204 for above 60 years (1st Dose) and 57,45,863 for above 60 years (2nd Dose).

Keeping in mind the sudden surge in demand in the country for Remdesivir Injection required for Covid-19 therapy, the manufacturing capacity of domestic Remdesivir manufacturers has been ramped up. All support is being extended to manufacturers by the government in this endeavour. The production capacity is being ramped up from current level of 38 lakh vials per month to 74 lakh vials per month, and 20 additional manufacturing sites have been approved.

Export of Remdesivir has also been prohibited on 11th April,2021 in order to shore up domestic supplies.
