Health Ministry denies reports claiming Omicron XE case in Mumbai

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had said that a person is detected with the Omicron XE variant.

On Wednesday, April 6 the Union Health Ministry denied the reports that claimed India’s first Omicron XE case was detected in Mumbai. Earlier the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had said that a person is detected with the Omicron XE variant.

The XE variant was first detected in the UK in January of this year & has spread to several countries. The World Health Organisation had earlier warned regarding the XE variant of the virus. The health body had claimed the new variant to be more transmissible than any other variant of the COVID-19 virus.

The report of the new variant had created panic among the people, the #OmicronXE was trending on Twitter. The state government had also removed all the restrictions imposed due to the pandemic as the cases have greatly declined.
