Amid the pandemic, 6 lakh people arrived in Haridwar for Baisakhi Snan, says Kumbh Mela IG

6 lakh people have arrived in Haridwar for the Baisakhi Snan, says the IG. The duration of the Kumbh Mela has been curtailed to one month.

Amid the ongoing Coronavirus crisis, 6 lakh people have reached Haridwar in order to take the ‘Baisakhi Snan” which is considered to be the most prominent among the three ‘Shahi Snan’ and 11 Snan of Kumbh combined.

“Baisakhi Snan is considered to be the biggest of all four Shahi Snan and 11 Snan of Kumbh combined. Compared to 1.60 crore people who arrived here in 2010, as captured by satellite image, around 6 lacks people have arrived this year for Baisakhi Snan”, says the Inspector General of the Haridwar Kumbh Mela, Sanjay gunjyal, as quoted by ANI.

Maha Kumbh Mela’s first Shahi Snan took place on the day of Maha Shivratri, dated 11th of March, and the second one was held on the 12th of April. Well, according to its specific schedule, there are a total of four ‘Shahi Snan’ and nine ‘Ganga Snan’ which is scheduled to be held in Haridwar, this year.

Additionally, the point to be noted is that the total duration of the ‘Maha Kumbh Mela’ is often 4 months but this year, because of the pandemic plus its surging rates, the duration of the festival has been fixed at one month.

Well, arranging the Maha Kumbh Mela and battling the Coronavirus at the same has resulted into the occurrence of more than 1000 Corona positive cases.

Also, we can’t turn a blind eye to the rising rates of the Covid-19 in Uttarakhand. The total number of cases stands at 1, 12,000 while the state has reported over 1,925 cases in the last 24 hours and this is being considered the highest spike in Covid cases in Uttarakhand.
