On Friday, the University Grants Commission (UGC) issued a notification against Chinese universities that were issuing notices for admission to various degree programmes. Before enrolling in universities in the People’s Republic of China, students should be aware of the travel restrictions, according to the commission.
“Any prospective student should be aware that, in the aftermath of COVID-19, the People’s Republic of China has imposed strict travel restrictions and suspended all visas until November 2020.” Due to these restrictions, a large number of Indian students have been unable to return to China to continue their studies. “There has been no relaxation of the restrictions thus far,” according to the UGC’s official notification.
The notice went on to say that the Chinese authorities had previously stated that the courses would be conducted online and that under current rules, the UGC and AICTE would not recognise such degree courses pursued online without prior approval.
“Students are advised to exercise caution when deciding where to pursue higher education in order to avoid further problems in employment or higher education,” according to the notification.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) issued a warning against online medical courses offered by several Chinese universities in February 2022. The commission had recommended students who wanted to study medicine or other courses at foreign universities to “exercise due diligence.”
The NMC has also stated that it does not acknowledge or authorise any medical course that is only offered online.
