In a major operation, in the Lalpora region of Kupwara district, security forces, comprising Kupwara Police, 28 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), and CRPF 162 Battalion, arrested a suspected terrorist associate and seized a stockpile of weapons and ammunition. The coordinated operation took place at the Gundimacher Bridge, where a successful naka (checkpoint) was laid by a watchful security detail.
A police spokesperson stated that the operation began after they saw a suspicious figure travelling from Lalpora towards Gundimacher while carrying a white bag. The culprit tried to escape but was immediately arrested by the combined forces. Rafeeq Ahmad Ganie, a Lalpora native and the son of Gh Ahmad Ganie, was recognised as the person who had been apprehended.
The arrested suspect gave crucial information during the initial interrogation. Following that, a second examination of the bag turned out some items like a cell phone, a pistol, a pistol magazine, ten rounds of ammunition, and two hand grenades.
In order to demonstrate their dedication to preserving peace and security in the area, the police statement emphasised the joint efforts of Kupwara Police, 28 RR, and CRPF 162Bn. A possible threat to the safety of people and security personnel was avoided due to the effective apprehension.
Rafeeq Ahmad Ganie, who was detained, is currently being held while additional inquiries are conducted to find out more about his connections, associations, and potential involvement in future or previous acts of terrorism. In order to stop any potential risks to the peace and stability of the region, the security forces are actively dismantling any networks that may already be in place.
