Today, the prestigious position of the Indian Army Chief has been filled by Lieutenant General Manoj Pande. He is the 1st officer from the Corps of Engineers to take up the post of the Chief of Army Staff. Up till today, this post was offered to officers from the Infantry Armoured and Artillery corps.
He secured the position of the senior-most official after 3 previous incumbents had retired in the last 3 months. On March 31st Lieutenant General Raj Shukla took his retirement, he was looking over the Army’s Training Command. On January 31st both Lieutenant Generals CP Mohanty and YK Joshi took to retirement. March end after Lt Gen. Raj Shukla took to retirement, which also saw Lieutenant General SS Mahal taking office as the Army’s Training Command in Shimla.
