
The Indian army has moved its units responsible for counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir to eastern Ladakh in an effort to check Chinese aggression.
Sources familiar with the development informed India Today TV, “Around 15,000 troops from Jammu & Kashmir based counter-terrorism formation were moved to the Ladakh sector several months ago to tackle the Chinese aggression.”
The sources further affirmed that these troops have been deployed in the Ladakh sector for ‘quite some time now’. These deployed troops are likely to assists the Leh-based 14 Corps headquarters to effectively counter any future move taken by the People’s Liberation Army.
Emphasizing China’s aggression along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladhak the previous year, India has increased its troop deployment. The Ladakh sector which had only one division now has two full divisions together with additional armored and other units.
Reportedly, the Indian army’s 17 Mountain Strike Corps have recently witnessed a major boost by receiving around 10,000 additional troops and firepower to carry forward its tasks along the India-China border.
The 17 Mountain Strike Corp is the Indian Army’s only strike corps, responsible for initiating offensive operations against China in case of war. It has strengthened at the time when India and China are engaged in a military standoff for nearly a year by now.
Since the past year, Indian and Chinese armies have deployed heavy troops at the border. As per reports, the formation of the Mathura-based One Strike Corps has been reoriented towards the northern border, while one of its armored formations would continue to be with it.
Moreover, the deployment and formation of troops in the other sectors have also been strengthened. On the ground of India’s tactical operations along the southern bank of Pangong Lake, the Indian Army managed to secure disengagement from the Finger area.
Reportedly discussions are being conducted from both sides for further disengagements and de-escalation from other friction points in the area.
