HDFC Bank Ltd has strongly denied the allegations made by the trustees of Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust (LKMMT), calling them “false, malicious and defamatory.” In a media statement released on June 11, 2025, the bank reiterated that neither the bank nor its MD & CEO has engaged in any illegal, unethical or improper activity.
The bank described the allegations as part of a “malicious campaign” allegedly orchestrated by the Mehta family to derail the bank’s legal recovery and enforcement actions. It also criticized the timing and manner of the accusations, calling them deliberate attempts to malign the institution’s image.
HDFC Bank emphasized that it follows the highest standards of governance and ethics and has initiated legal proceedings, including defamation and recovery actions, against those responsible for spreading the claims.
“The Bank does not see any necessity to respond on a daily basis to such baseless, frivolous and malicious campaigns,” the statement said, urging the public and media to exercise critical judgment before reporting or amplifying such allegations.
HDFC Bank confirmed it will pursue all available legal remedies and is consulting experts to take strong action against the parties involved in the alleged smear effort.
