IndiGo will deploy its second Airbus A321XLR aircraft on the Delhi to Istanbul route with effect from April 19, 2026, the airline announced on April 2, 2026. The deployment brings IndiGo’s newest and most capable long-haul narrow-body aircraft to one of its most strategically important international routes, and for the first time introduces a dual-class cabin configuration on the Delhi-Istanbul sector with both Economy and IndiGoStretch business seats.
The Flight Schedule
Flight 6E 0011 departs Delhi daily at 07:30 and arrives in Istanbul at 13:55 local time. Flight 6E 0012 departs Istanbul daily at 18:20 and arrives in Delhi at 05:20 the following morning. All timings are in local time zones. The service operates every day of the week.
What Is New on This Route
The deployment of the A321XLR on Delhi-Istanbul introduces several product upgrades that passengers on this route have not previously experienced with IndiGo.
For the first time on this sector, IndiGo will offer a dual-class configuration with 183 Economy seats and 12 IndiGoStretch seats. IndiGoStretch is IndiGo’s tailor-made business product, providing a premium cabin experience on what is an increasingly important international corridor between India and Europe via Turkey.
Customers across both cabins will receive complimentary hot meals and beverages inspired by global and local cuisines, with vegetarian options as default and non-vegetarian meals available for pre-booking. Alcoholic beverages are available for purchase in Economy or via pre-booking, and are complimentary for IndiGoStretch customers. The aircraft is equipped with a next-generation digital inflight entertainment system that enables customers to stream Indian and international films, television shows, games, anime, and more directly on their personal devices.
The Turkish Airlines Codeshare — Why Istanbul Matters Strategically
The strategic significance of the Delhi-Istanbul route for IndiGo goes well beyond the bilateral India-Turkey travel market. Through IndiGo’s codeshare partnership with Turkish Airlines, passengers connecting through Istanbul gain seamless onward access to over 50 international destinations across Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. Istanbul’s Ataturk and Istanbul Airport serve as one of the world’s most efficiently connected aviation hubs, and the IndiGo-Turkish Airlines codeshare effectively gives Indian travellers from Delhi a single-booking gateway to a global network that IndiGo could not practically serve with its own metal alone.
For IndiGo’s internationalisation strategy, the Delhi-Istanbul-world routing via Turkish Airlines codeshare is a capital-efficient way to offer Indian travellers effectively global connectivity without deploying aircraft on every individual long-haul sector. The A321XLR’s enhanced range makes it the ideal aircraft for this hub-and-spoke international strategy.
The A321XLR in IndiGo’s Fleet
IndiGo became the first Indian carrier to induct the Airbus A321XLR into its fleet earlier in 2026 and launched its inaugural A321XLR operations to Athens, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s internationalisation journey. The Delhi-Istanbul deployment is the second route to receive the aircraft and demonstrates IndiGo’s intent to deploy the A321XLR specifically on routes where its extended range, fuel efficiency, and cabin comfort justify the premium product offering.
The A321XLR, the extra long-range variant of the A321neo family, has a maximum range of approximately 8,700 kilometres, enabling it to operate routes that were previously out of reach for narrow-body aircraft and to do so more fuel efficiently than wide-body alternatives. For an airline navigating an environment of elevated ATF costs driven by the Iran war, the A321XLR’s fuel efficiency advantage over wide-body alternatives on medium-haul international routes is a significant commercial consideration beyond just the product upgrade it delivers to passengers.
