In light of heightened operational alerts and growing cross-border tensions, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has temporarily suspended all civil flight operations at 32 airports across northern and western India. The suspension is effective from May 9 until 5:29 AM on May 15, 2025, as per a series of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) issued by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
The affected airports include major and strategic locations such as Amritsar, Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Chandigarh, Jaisalmer, Bathinda, Pathankot, and Ambala, many of which lie close to the Indo-Pak border or serve as dual-use military-civil facilities.
“The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and relevant aviation authorities have issued a series of NOTAMs announcing the temporary closure of 32 airports for all civil flight operations due to operational reasons,” the DGCA said in a statement.
This unprecedented move comes just days after India conducted precision strikes under Operation Sindoor, and Pakistan attempted retaliatory drone and missile attacks, which were effectively neutralised by Indian air defence.
