The teasers show short views of a sportbike with a significant emphasis on the number 9, indicating that the YZF-R9 is on the way. Furthermore, a countdown begins at 10 but stops at 9, pointing more towards the R9 model.
The forthcoming Yamaha YZF-R9 will be built on the same platform as the MT-09, which is its naked counterpart. This indicates that the 890 cc, liquid-cooled CP3 engine will be installed. This engine produces 93 Nm at 7,000 rpm and 117 bhp at 10,000 rpm in the naked bike.
The decision to make the litre-class R1 a track-only vehicle in Europe paved the way for the R9. In addition, the R9 will replace the four-cylinder R6 in the World Supersport Championship. With the litre-class YZF-R1 being reserved for the track, the Yamaha YZF-R9 will become the brand’s premier road-legal sportbike.
