Xiaomi unveils YU7 electric SUV; Here’s what to expect

Xiaomi, the Chinese electronics giant, is making waves in the electric vehicle (EV) market with the unveiling of its first-ever electric SUV, the Xiaomi YU7. Following the success of its SU7 electric sedan, which launched in March 2024 and is already on sale in China, Xiaomi is expanding its footprint in the premium EV segment.

The Xiaomi YU7 SUV is set for a 2025 launch, with an expected release in June or July. As Xiaomi aims to compete in the crowded Chinese electric car market, the YU7 will directly rival popular models like the Tesla Model Y. This move marks a significant milestone for the brand as it positions itself in the premium electric vehicle market.

Here’s what to expect in Xiaomi YU7

The YU7 shares many design elements with the SU7 sedan, including a similar front profile with LED headlamps, a sleek nose section, and a bumper. However, the YU7 stands out with a larger air intake and a higher bonnet, giving it a more rugged SUV look. The side profile is also comparable, though the roofline and wheel design are distinct. The rear features LED taillights that mirror those found on the SU7 sedan.

While Xiaomi has not revealed full details about the YU7’s powertrain, it has been confirmed that the SUV will feature a CATL-sourced battery pack. The YU7 is expected to reach a top speed of 253 km/h, making it a high-performance electric vehicle. The SUV will be built at Xiaomi’s factory in Beijing’s Yizhuang district, with final specifications confirmed through filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
