MG Motor’s Windsor EV has emerged as a game-changer in the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market, driving a remarkable surge in the carmaker’s sales. In December, the Windsor EV crossed the significant milestone of 10,000 units sold, contributing to a 55% increase in MG Motor’s overall sales compared to December 2023. With 7,516 units sold last month, MG Motor saw a notable rise from 6,019 units in November 2023.
Launched during the festive season last year, the Windsor EV has quickly become India’s best-selling electric car. Positioned between the Comet EV and ZS EV, it captured the attention of Indian consumers with its affordability and impressive features. In December, the Windsor EV alone accounted for 3,785 units, making up more than half of MG Motor’s total sales for the month.
The Windsor EV’s success is part of MG Motor’s broader strategy, with the company’s electric vehicle lineup contributing nearly 70% of total sales in December, its highest ever in India. The starting price of ₹13.50 lakh (ex-showroom) makes the Windsor EV an attractive option for eco-conscious buyers. Additionally, the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) scheme allows buyers to purchase the car for ₹9.99 lakh, with a per-kilometer charge of ₹3.5 for battery usage.
