Mercedes-Benz India has started 2025 with a groundbreaking launch, introducing the highly anticipated G 580 EQ to the Indian market. This electric iteration of the iconic G-Wagen marks a significant step in the brand’s electrification journey. As per HT Auto, priced at an impressive ₹3 crore, the G 580 EQ is already a sell-out, with orders fully booked until the third quarter of 2025. While the company has kept the numbers under wraps, its sold-out status at launch is a testament to its popularity.
The G 580 EQ retains the iconic design of the G-Wagen, including its boxy silhouette, clamshell bonnet, round headlamps, and closed-off grille with illuminated elements. Inside, it features a twin-screen setup, propeller-style air vents, and electric-specific design elements, adding to its luxury and futuristic appeal. Buyers can choose from five exterior colors and a single interior option.
Under the hood, the G 580 is powered by four electric motors producing 579 bhp and 1,164 Nm of torque. A 116 kWh battery delivers a range of 473 km (WLTP) on a single charge. Despite its 3-tonne weight, the SUV accelerates from 0-100 kmph in just 4.7 seconds, with a top speed capped at 180 kmph.
The G 580 EQ is a true off-road beast, boasting a 250 mm ground clearance, 850 mm water-wading capability, and the ability to handle a 70% gradient. Advanced features like G-Steering, Off-Road Crawl, and the innovative G-Turn, which enables 720-degree rotation, ensure unmatched versatility.
Having evolved from the EQG concept unveiled in 2021, the production version of the G 580 EQ was showcased at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Expo before making its grand entry into the Indian market. This electric off-roader signifies the future of sustainable luxury mobility while maintaining the legendary G-Wagen DNA.
