Mercedes-AMG has revealed the first pictures of its highly anticipated electric SUV, set to launch in 2027. Built on the new AMG.EA platform, this cutting-edge electric GT SUV will rival models like the Lotus Eletre and the upcoming Porsche Cayenne Electric. It marks the second vehicle to use this platform, following a four-door coupe previewed earlier this year.
Developed entirely by AMG, the electric SUV features 800V technology and advanced axial-flux motors developed by Yasa, an Oxfordshire-based firm owned by Mercedes. The SUV will offer both twin and tri-motor setups, delivering over 1,000hp, with individual motors producing 486hp and 800Nm of torque.
The SUV is designed with performance in mind, offering a dynamic driving experience on both highways and off-road terrain. It will include variable ride height control to enhance ground clearance for off-road capabilities and automatically lower at high speeds for improved aerodynamics.
The battery chemistry has been optimized for better efficiency and range compared to the NMC batteries in current AMG electric models. Development efforts are also focused on advanced heat management and liquid cooling systems to support ultra-fast charging speeds. New software and inverter technology, developed in collaboration with Mercedes’ High-Performance Powertrain division, will further enhance the SUV’s performance.
