India Kawasaki launches W175 Street motorcycle

India Kawasaki Motors has introduced a new variant of its economical motorcycle, the W175, on December 8th. Named the Kawasaki W175 Street, it comes with a price tag of Rs 1.35 lakh (ex-showroom), making it Rs 12,000 more affordable than the standard W175, along with additional features to enhance its appeal. The bike retains its 177 cc air-cooled single-cylinder Fl engine.

The power plant is coupled to a five-speed gearbox, producing a maximum output of 13 bhp at 7,000 rpm and peak torque of 13.2 Nm at 6,000 rpm. Bookings will start soon, and deliveries are planned for this month, despite the car’s rudimentary amenities, which include a semi-digital instrument dashboard and a basic halogen headlamp with chrome bezels.

The alloy wheels of the Kawasaki W175 Street are a noticeable improvement, and this allows the front and rear tires to be tubeless. This is a useful innovation that makes life easier in the event of a puncture compared to the standard W175 that uses tubed rubber on wire-spoke wheels. The front and rear tire sizes on the motorcycle are the same, measuring 80/100-17 and 100/90-17, respectively. Two new color options are available for it: Metallic Moondust Grey and Candy Emerald Green.

Built on the semi double cradle frame, the W175 Street boasts changes in dimensions, including a seat height of 786.5 mm, ground clearance of 152 mm, and an altered wheelbase. Braking duties are managed by a 245 mm front disc with dual-channel ABS, while telescopic front forks and twin-sided shock absorbers handle suspension. Manufactured in India, the retro-themed motorcycle was unveiled at the India Bike Week 2023 in Goa.
