Hero MotoCorp likely to launch affordable electric scooters in FY25

Hero MotoCorp is the market leader in India for two-wheelers powered by internal combustion engines, however, the company has been slow to enter the electric vehicle industry. But now that the Vida V1 Pro is on sale, the company wants to increase the number of EVs it offers in India. Hero MotoCorp, aiming to take the lead in the electric two-wheeler market, plans to introduce cost-effective versions in FY25, according to CEO Niranjan Gupta.

According to PTI, Giupta stated that Hero MotoCorp’s goal is to establish leadership in the EV category and that to do so, the company plans to create a highly powerful electric vehicle product line to add to the Vida V1 Pro that it currently sells. As per the report, he said, “We want to build leadership in EV, and in order to do that, we will be creating a very powerful EV product portfolio, augmenting the Vida V1 Pro that we have today.”

Furthermore, Gupta stated that this fiscal year, the company would introduce products in the mid-and cheap categories.

A few years ago, Hero MotoCorp launched the Vida sub-brand, which is focused on the electric vehicle market. The ex-showroom pricing range of the Vida V1 electric scooter, including state subsidies, is ₹1-1.5 lakh. While several manufacturers of electric two-wheelers, such as Ather Energy and Ola Electric, have been introducing reasonably priced models for under ₹1 lakh, Vida too wants to make an impact in this market, where demand is growing.
