
BYD made waves at Auto Expo 2025, unveiling the Yangwang U8 flagship SUV and announcing bookings for the Sealion 7 EV. The Sealion 6 PHEV also took center stage, signaling BYD’s intent to gauge market response in India.
The BYD Sealion 6 PHEV, already popular in markets like Australia, boasts a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an 18.3kWh battery. Together, they deliver an impressive range of up to 1,092km, including an 81-92km electric-only range. Two variants are available:
- Dynamic Variant: Combines a 197hp front motor and a 98hp engine, generating 218hp and 300Nm of torque.
- Premium Variant: Features an additional 163hp rear motor and a turbocharged engine, producing 324hp and 550Nm of torque.
The Premium variant accelerates from 0-100kph in 5.9 seconds, while the Dynamic variant does so in 8.5 seconds.
The Sealion 6 measures 4,775mm in length, 1,890mm in width, and 1,670mm in height, with a 2,765mm wheelbase. It offers 425-1,440 litres of boot space and weighs between 1,940kg and 2,100kg. Standard 19-inch alloy wheels with 235/50 R19 tyres enhance its road presence.
Inside, the SUV features a dual-tone cabin (tan or off-white with black) with leatherette upholstery. A 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen and a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster take the spotlight. Key features include a 10-speaker Infinity audio system, panoramic sunroof, powered seats, and dual-zone climate control. Safety highlights include 7 airbags, ADAS, 360-degree cameras, and ISOFIX mounts.
