Bajaj Chetak to become more affordable soon with new variant launch

Next month, Bajaj Auto plans to release a new version of the Chetak electric scooter. Earlier this year, the Bajaj Chetak received a comprehensive update, but pricing also increased as a result. Anticipated to be an entry-level model, the new Chetak model is likely to cost less than the Urbane variant—roughly ₹1 lakh (ex-showroom). Right now, the Bajaj Chetak costs between ₹1.23 lakh and ₹1.47 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

During the latest earnings call, Bajaj Auto’s executive director, Rakesh Sharma, affirmed the development while interacting with the media. Sharma said, without going into too much detail, that the new offering will have greater “mass appeal.”

The manufacturer may choose to use a hub motor and a smaller battery pack in the new entry-level Chetak to save expenses and make the model cheaper.

The recent price increase in the electric scooter industry has created a need for a more affordable option. With the FAME subsidy removed and the temporary EMPS incentive in effect until July of this year, prices have risen across the board. However, to not deter buyers, most manufacturers have resorted to marginal price hikes.
