
The Indian auto sector kicked off 2025 with impressive growth, as the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) reported a 6.63% year-on-year increase in vehicle retail sales for January 2025. A total of 22,91,621 vehicles were sold, compared to 21,49,117 units in January 2024. Notably, month-on-month sales saw a remarkable 30.47% growth over December 2024.
FADA President C S Vigneshwar highlighted the positive momentum across all vehicle categories, including two-wheelers (2W), three-wheelers (3W), passenger vehicles (PV), commercial vehicles (CV), and tractors. This signals sustained consumer confidence and steady market recovery.
Key Vehicle Category Performances in January 2025:
- Passenger Vehicles (PV): Sales rose by 15.53% to 4,65,920 units, compared to 4,03,300 units in January 2024.
- Two-Wheelers (2W): 15,25,862 units were retailed, marking a 4.15% growth.
- Three-Wheelers (3W): A 7% increase to 1,07,033 units, with strong growth in internal combustion engine (ICE) three-wheelers and e-rickshaw cargo versions.
- Commercial Vehicles (CV): A solid 8.22% rise to 99,425 units.
- Tractors: Sales grew by 5.23% to 93,381 units.
Year-to-Date (April 2024 – January 2025) performance was also positive, with total sales reaching 2,20,78,161 units, an 8% increase. Passenger vehicle sales grew 6%, while two-wheeler sales surged 10%.
