Is there life in Venus clouds? Stunning discovery by scientists


Space scientists across the world are overwhelmed with the latest discovery of a highly acidic cloud on Earth’s closest neighbor Venus, that indicates life. The international scientific team spotted a cloud of phosphine gas over Venus using the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope in Hawaii and confirmed it using the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) radio telescope in Chile.

What is the composition of the cloud?

The clouds are extremely acidic- they are made up of 90% sulphuric acid. The temperature is mild- around 30 degree Celsius or 86 degree Fahrenheit. Phosphine was seen at 20 parts-per-billion in the Venusian atmosphere, a trace concentration. Scientists are assuming the presence of some aerial microbes in the clouds which can endure that much acidity. There is no such microbes discovered on earth.

Why is phosphine linked with life?

On earth, the anaerobic bacterias take up phosphate either from minerals or from biological materials. They add hydrogen to it and produce phosphine. As the same phosphine is found in Venus clouds, it can be suspected that life is present in Venus. But scientists are not ready to ‘claim’ such things, at this early stage. The surface of Venus is rich with Oxygen, which reacts with phosphine and destroy it. Still there is plenty amount of phosphine getting found. It proves that their is some biochemical processes working continuously to produce phosphine at a faster rate than it’s being destroyed.

Is alien life found in Venus?

The previous robotic spacecraft has given the news of phosphine clouds. Scientists are investigating on the possibility of presence of life in Venus. New probes are to be sent which are expected to bring more concrete facts and data.
