PM Modi pays last respect to Kalyan Singh in Lucknow

PM Modi was received by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandiben Patel. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday visited Lucknow to pay his last respects to former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Kalyan Singh.

“Shri Kalyan Singh Ji made Jan Kalyan his life Mantra. He worked for the development of UP and the nation. He became synonymous with honesty and good administration,” he tweeted on Saturday.

“Kalyan Singh Ji gave voice to crores of people belonging to the marginalised sections of society. He made numerous efforts towards the empowerment of farmers, youngsters and women.” He further added.

Modi was received by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandiben Patel. 

Prime Minister’s office tweeted about the prime minister’s arrival in Lucknow around 11 am, saying, “PM @narendramodi landed in Lucknow for Antim Darshan of former UP CM and statesman Shri Kalyan Singh Ji.”

Modi also hailed the former chief minister’s contribution towards India’s cultural heritage. 

As reported by MoneyControl, Uttar Pradesh has announced three-day mourning and a holiday on August 23, when the former chief minister’s last rites will be performed.

Kalyan Singh passed away on August 21 at the age of 89. He was admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow on July 4 due to sepsis and multiple organ failure.

Singh was the chief minister of UP in 1992 during the Babri Masjid demolition. He also served as Rajasthan Governor in 2014. In 2020, he was one among the 32 people who were acquitted from the demolition case along with LK Advani and MM Joshi.
